Robbo Time is one of many colorful and vibrant apps for autism developed by WebTeam Corporation. The app sees to it that children with autism spectrum disorders get plenty of fun while learning the concept of time in analog and digital formats.
The startup screen of the ABA-based app shows two parts – Instruction and Start. The ‘Instruction’ part includes a training session where the basic gameplay method is explained to the user. In the ‘Start’ part, the user is asked to choose one of the available five timeframes – 1 hour, 30 minutes, 15 minutes, 10 minutes and 5 minutes. The last four timeframes are available only for paid users.
The gameplay part begins once the user selects a timeframe. An analog clock is given as a point of reference next to a digital clock that keeps ticking randomly. The user is required to hit a stopwatch when the time shown on the digital clock matches that of the analog clock.
In keeping with the prerequisites of the ABA method of intervention delivery, each correct response is rewarded with a lively animation. In Robbo Time, the child gets four chances to give a correct response. If the child gets it right the first time, he or she scores 50 points and receives a positive reinforcement. The remaining three chances fetch 30, 20 and 10 points respectively, along with a reward animation.
In addition to allowing special needs children to learn the concept of time in different formats, the app also helps them sharpen their reaction time and ability to follow verbal and visual instructions.
